Would Skinner have owned a Blackberry?
In
1972, my first visit to university, I took a course in psychology
which covered behaviourism and the work of B. F. Skinner
(1904-1990). I was so fascinated by the American psychologist and
his studies of operant conditioning that I have never forgotten the
material even after more than thirty year/…

Movie Review: Jackass 3D
I first gave a 3 word movie review for The
Town then ended up saying the same thing for
The Social Network. Those 3 words were "Go see it!" Once
again, I find I must express with a certain succinctness my
visceral reaction to this 3rd instalment of the cinematic
experience/…

Movie Review: Lovely, Still
This "small" film, supposedly made for $5 million, is a charming
story of love at Christmas for an elderly man played by Martin
Landau and the lady from across the street, Ellen Burstyn. The film
plays out over a week but packs a lot of story in such a short
time./…

Damn Toilet
My toilet is the pits. The pits? Wait! Did I spell that
correctly?
I moved into a new apartment. This new abode is located in the basement close to the building's laundry room so I've been given to understand that I am something of the last stop in the plumbing before leaving/…

Movie Review: Red
I don't think I could sum up this movie any better that Roger Ebert
of the Chicago Sun-Times who said,
“RED†is neither a good movie nor a bad one. It features actors we like doing things we wish were more interesting.
He gave the movie 2 stars out of 4.

Movie Review: Easy A
Smart, entertaining, a well written script, a delightful young
female star. What? Where did this one come from? I had seen the
trailer shown before some other movies as of late but hadn't
considered seeing it since it seemed like a teenage comedy
targeting the youth market.

Let's go green... er, black?
I work in an office tower handled by one of the larger property
management companies. As I was leaving work a couple of months ago,
my eyes fell on a sign in the lobby that said the management
company was following a policy of dimming lights as part of a
green/…

Movie Review: Waiting for Superman
This 2010 documentary is about American public education and its
failures. I suppose the target audience for this film is actually
the United States itself however as a documentary, I found it well
done and an eye opener for anybody about the importance of
education and what happens if you continue/…

Theatre Review: Rock of Ages
Mirvish Productions has been hosting this show at the Royal
Alexandra Theatre in Toronto since May 11, 2010. If I inspire you
to take the plunge, I see the calendar of shows has performances
until the end of the year. I'm assuming it will continue after that
but who knows? Try/…

Nice doggy. Ahhh! What the heck?
Yesterday, I decide to trip over to my local Rabba Foods and pick
up a couple of things. I step out of my apartment and immediately
notice a woman to the right sitting at a picnic table located in an
open area in front of the building. As I head down/…

Movie Review: The Social Network
This film is about Facebook. For those not in the know, Facebook is
a web site slash web service whereby users can post personal
information about themselves including photos and videos and share
them with their friends. Facebook is a social network service which
is dedicated to building and reflecti/…

Parachuting: If God had meant me to...
Years ago, a friend took me to a pool to try out his scuba gear.
While I did sort of get the hang of it, I distinctly remember how
breathing underwater seemed unnatural. My intellect understood the
concept of a tank of air, a regulator and a mouthpiece but there
was/…

Nostalgia: Ah, but you can never go back
This always happens to me. I travel; I stay some place then I
hesitate when I leave feeling a touch of nostalgia. Business
recently required me to fly out West for an overnight stay; one of
those fly in for a meeting, fly out immediately afterwards. Despite
my short stay, I/…

"I want to kill. I mean, I wanna, I wanna kill.
Kill. I wanna, I wanna see, I wanna see blood and gore and
guts and veins in my teeth. Eat dead burnt bodies. I mean

I suck; you suck; we all suck. What!?!
I'm trying to remember when I first heard this expression. I think
it was the mid-90's and I had overheard some younger people a
couple of times refer to something by saying that it sucked.
However, the introduction of this word into our everyday lexicon,
for me at least, was the/…

Movie Review: Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D
My movie review of Ben Affleck's bank robber film The

Webcams: live streaming
For the uninitiated, a webcam is a video camera attached to a
computer and allows you, the user, to pass a video feed over the
Internet usually as part of some sort of instant messaging. As well
as a video signal, it will do audio. However, the term also has

My 15 Minutes
Andy Warhol was the American artist who rose to fame during the
60's and 70's as one of the leading figures of the pop art
movement. Who hasn't seen his Campbell's soup can canvas or his
pictures of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis? However, his main
contribution to our culture, at least/…

ZipCars: I've seen the future, and it works.
I am now officially a "Zipster". I have just completed my very
first go at a Zipcar, an almost brand new Mini Cooper with just 15
thousand K, thank you very much. As I write this, I have to say
that this initial experience was quite favourable. Convenience is

Movie Review: Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
Mouth watering, salivating are expressions which refer to the
literal, food but are used in the figurative sense to describe our
desire or eagerness for something. Over the years in having done my
share of (minor) business dealings, I think the figurative meaning
of these expressions capture quite we/…

Google Street View: The world at our fingertips
On Friday, October 1, 2010, I read a news article that I found
using Google's news service which states that Google Street View
has come to the Antarctica. This means that the service is now
present on all seven continents and covers 25 countries this week
launching Ireland and Brazil.

information to be…
