Bio
I am a twenty-something Tlingit/Athabascan woman. I never plan on leaving Alaska. And - though I wouldn't have thought this was any kind of issue until recent inquiries - am straight, and always plan on being straight, as well. :) I am not married and have no children, so I frequently take children from my friends, spoil them ridiculously, and send them back. I've also begun to write my first book.

Obama picks Native senior policy advisor... finally!

Rate: 7 Flag

Okay, my impatience has finally paid off (not sure that had anything to do with it, but moving on!)

One of the major campaign promises of Obama's to Native people around the country was a Native senior policy advisor - and he's made good on that promise!

From RezNet:
Obama names Cherokee as Native Policy Advisor

From Indian Country Today:
President Obama announces Kimberly Teehee as senior policy advisor for Native American Affairs

I don't know anything about Teehee, so I'm going to check around, see what reaction this gets, and hope for the best!

He actually picked my best friend's sister to head Indian Health Services. She's from Rosebud Rez in SD, and her last name is Roubideaux. It was kind of funny...after the anouncement that she had been picked, she was getting out of her cab at her hotel, missed the curb, and broke her ankle. She had to have it taken care of before her swearing in and she was completely embarrassed. We're all very proud. Thanks for keeping up on these stories.
Any chance that this Kimberly Teehee will double up as Sec. of Commerce? That one comes with a corner office and reserved parking.
Wonderful news and about time for this country.
Maybe the Duwamish will finally get a hearing and a positive ruling on tribal recognition status: the Bush administration's revocation of the Clinton Administration's ruling was despicable. See my post at: http://thehazelfiles.blogspot.com/
This is wonderful. Thanks for sharing. No one talks about Native American issues anymore, it seems. It's all about the Hispanic community now. Have we stopped caring about Native Americans? Anyways, I'm glad that you are posting this stuff. Someone should.
So cool!
Noahvose, all the best women are breaking their ankles this season. Congrats to her!
