Oetzi The Ice Man = are you a relative?

Rate: 2 Flag

 otzi

Otzi, or however it is spelled at the moment, is a 5,000 year old alpine hiker that was shot in the back and left for dead; which he was. Now twenty years after he melted out of the ice we know what his DNA was.

It seems wrong but twenty years ago, even five years ago, we didn't have the technology or hardware to do this. We as a civilization have begun to expect advancements in knowledge to be instantaneous. In 1890 a mere 100 years ago the best that could have been hoped for was that his body would have gone into a bottle of alcohol and graced a tent at the Carnival. The mention of DNA would have been scandalous as it inched its' way across the nation from newspaper to newspaper, pulpit to pulpit.

Well here we are; we know what his DNA is and through another recent discovery we know what his diet was throughout his life. This time we even have clothes. He was dressed much like many of the first nation people here dressed in the early 1800s. diaper like loin cloth, leggings, moccosins, tunic, hat and coat all of which expressed a sense of fashion. We know that he was carrying as personal effects and as trade goods.

The big question now is; who is related to him and how much have we changed.  I've got a hunch we'll find that he was Germatic, and that his specific DNA is only a background trace in the mongrol world we live in today. 5,000 uears ago was 500 years before the pyramids and 2500 years before Rome.

Stripped and fitted fur tunic. Bear skin hat with ear flaps. What could pass for Ugg boots. Too top it off leather jeans and a cool backpack. The dude even hasd tattoos! Otzi was styling was saying more over Tara!

FIRST. This is interesting. Most of our DNA comes from the same group in Africa, I read. Hope you write a follow up post.
yes, the origin of our dna does appear to have come from africa. I suppose it was sloppy of me not to say that and then say that I think it will further be narrowed down to the groups found north of the alps 5,000 years ago. It will be very interesting to see how much variation there has been.
can you believe i spelled it relitive!
