You may have heard about the dumping of spring snow we got here in Denver last week. I’m happy to report that most of it is already gone, in true Colorado fashion. It was a load of snow and havoc on the roads one day and two days later, temperatures in the 50s and the white stuff is almost gone.
No one, however, is more happy to say goodbye to the snow than Beeker.
You may remember a piece I wrote about how much Beeker loves to spend time on our deck. It’s his chance to get outside and enjoy some fresh air without worrying about him wandering around the neighborhood to become a fox or coyote canapé. We went out to Seattle during Spring Break and Beeker was desperate to get outside after being stuck inside for a week.
He did see the snow from inside. I guess that he just didn’t understand that if the snow is over your head, it might just be a good idea to stay inside.
Oh well. Sometimes, you have to learn the hard way.
Beeker – I’m not sure anymore. I won’t be doing that again though.

Gonzo is so smart, Beeker is so handsome.
AnniThyme - you have no idea how hard it was for me to take pictures and bust my gut laughing at the same time.
Thanks, everyone!
bluesurly - I have another cat (three total) that we just couldn't figure out a female Muppet name for. She wasn't really a Janice and she certainly wasn't a Miss Piggy. Her name is Marijke (pronounced mar-eye-ka), which is always fun to hear them try to call out at the vet's office. And the kitties generously thank you for the lovin'.

somewhere in a box I have photos of my Abby having a snow experience. She looked at me like, oh, what is this, your idea of a joke? Tell Beeker I was laughing at the memory of my cat.
it is funny.
well done, both of you.
So, do you really think that Beeker will remember this lesson next winter?
Thumbed. Still laughing.
Awesome photo essay - I love orange cats, and your cats names.
Great pictures!

Yes, 6-12 more inches of snow tomorrow for Beeker to "frolic" in. I'm going to be curious to see if he has indeed learned his lesson. It's not like this was all that long ago.
Phaedo - thanks for the recommendation! I'll take note of it and try to get there next time I'm in that area.
Thanks everyone for the comments! Glad you're getting a chuckle out of Beeker's antics. It was lots of fun to watch him...although I'm sure Beeker would probably disagree. :-)
Fred cat owns this house and, since he's a good usetabe male, he allows me to live here.
Of course, IAM(s) the feeder.
There are few sounds louder than that which is screamed in the kitchen when I am coking jumbo shrimp.
We're going to have bluegill tonight.
I hope he lets me have a few.
After all, I caught them.
I (used to be) a bad person. Well, I still would be if I had cats + snow in the same place. I liked to take a cat that had never seen snow (and they had to be begging at the window, like Beeker) and walk them out into the yard or porch, hold them over fresh, un-tamped-down snow, and let them drop. Oh, yes, it was mean. But it was Educational! And yeah, they'd do the cartoony scramble to get back to safety.
I'd look at them then and say, telepathically: 1. You learned a lesson. The white stuff - not so good for cats. 2. I am the creator and the god of your world. Worship me.
ConnieMack - Gonzo's actually named after Gonzo the Great - the large nosed character from The Muppet Show. And I think Beeker does worship me. Or at least considers me a really good place to nap on (like he is as I'm typing this). :-)
Love it!
Thanks, everyone! Beeker sends his regards and is getting his paws ready for tomorrow.
Then you've got the cats who are like, well, I'll just let you do it and laugh at you.
I have a cat who loves to make mad dashes out the door and once he made it almost to the fence when he realized that snow is cold. He turned and started marching smartly back with tail up ramrod straight and seemed to be saying, Cold, Cold, Cold, Cold.
So we let them out when it snows. As far as they know, the television world on the other side of the window is a cold, wet place that will swallow them. We have to reinforce the lesson every few months, but Colorado weather is reliable that way...
Yes, the cats think I'm evil, but they've always thought that.
