My Monetocracy Rant

Rate: 0 Flag

Oh god, what a rant I feel coming on. I mean I really hate things. Went onto urban dictionary and found out monetocracy is nothing new, already coined on Urban Dictionary.
A form of government in which the political and sociological driving force is material wealth. It is easily characterized by the way with which monetary donations are able to lubricate political ascension. Prevalent during the lifetime of Martin Luther.
Oh, I could add some stuff about one dollar one vote, a million dollars, a million votes, but we get the point.
The problem with a true democracy, is that if left uncontrolled, the masses of erstwhile middle class and poor would vote themselves better housing, stronger union rights, health care, and they would raise taxes progressively, to the level they used to be under Clinton, or even higher.
And we might end up in a state of Socialism.
So everything sucks, because nobody wants to give up any money or any of their creature comforts. So we sit by and watch this slow motion train wreck of the American way of life, re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Once someone is elected, their ideas, their policies are voted on by lobbyists, not their constituency. Look at the recent head to head about Debit Card Fees. A real battle between Bank lobbyists and the lobbyists representing Big Retail. Big retail one this round. Who gets the victory dividend? Not the consumer, you can be sure we won’t have any more dough in our pockets as a result, but some high flying lobbyist will certainly end up with a real sweet year-end bonus. You think?
Our elected officials require huge sums of campaign cash in order to keep their jobs. What would you or I do to keep our jobs?
Maybe term limits would help, maybe a lottery system, of the sorts that is used to create juries, would help.
Look how our elected officials have sold us out. There is no truth in packaging, there is no honey in Honey-Nut Cherios. Plus/Minus round-offs allowed for net weights in packaging were set at a time long before we had the technology to be dead on. Yeah, I’m not saying net weights are wrong all the time, but smaller companies, with less to loose (unlike Frito-Lay), I have personally seen very inaccurate weights and looseness with rounding off of nutritional values, tied to unrealistic portion sizes, like coffee lightener. For example, .49 transfat for a teaspoon serving size is labeled as 0 transfat. When was the last time you used only a teaspoon?
Why? Because the FDA is under the control of the packaged food lobby.
We are really, as a species, no better than apes in the jungle protecting our turf, protecting our families, using everything we got to have our genes, and not the next guys, carried forward into the future. Our technology as evolved. We must believe that this is the only real achievable immortality, the sort of immortality that so many religions seem be advertising. I give us credit here though; there is no false advertising. The guys with the most money will see their genes go further, and in much better style.
