The commercial media didn’t report the Inaugural Die-In

Rate: 6 Flag

I was watching the commercial media coverage for part of the day yesterday; obviously I had to constantly change the channel because it was so crappy so I didn’t catch all of it but if they followed the same pattern my best guess is that they didn’t provide any coverage to the Inaugural "I have a drone" die-in that was taking place. I didn’t find out about it until I found the following, reported by Bruce Gagnon.

Die-In at the Inaugural parade yesterday in Washington DC. The protest highlighted Obama's "I have a drone" war.

At one of the Obama pre-Inauguration parties two nights ago rapper Lupe Fiasco was thrown off the Inaugural Concert stage for rapping about the grim future of our country under Washington's, and Obama's, policies. This is what he said:

I really think the war on terror is a bunch of bullshit
Just a poor excuse for you to use up all your bullets
How much money does it take to really make a full clip
9/11 building 7 did they really pull it
Uhh, And a bunch of other cover ups
Your childs future was the first to go with budget cuts
If you think that hurts then, wait here comes the uppercut
The school was garbage in the first place, that's on the up and up complete article and video

By now it should be obvious to those that are paying attention that the comercial media doesn’t report more than a minimal fraction of the regular protests that are going on in this country. If they did then it would be obvious that the government isn’t responding to the will of the people at all.

Bruce Gagnon isn’t the only one that reports on some of these protest that the traditional media ignore but it should clear that more people should be paying more attention to those that do whether it is Bruce or some of the other truly sincere reporters that try to get the news out that the corporations don’t want you to hear.

There was at least one other of these die-in’s which I didn’t hear about when it happened from the comercial media; it took place last November and if you click on the picture above you’ll find the story behind that.

It makes me wonder how much else I and many other people are missing becasue it isn’t being widely reported while the comercial media spends an enormous amount of time focusing on the hype and what gown Michelle is wearing or Obama’s now famous “unscripted moment."

I doubt if I’m the only one to consider the possibilty that this “unscripted moment" seems to be folowing a script and even if it is an “unscripted moment" it is also being used for great propaganda.

Edit: I didn’t initially realize how much there was to the Lupe Fiasco fiasco or even who Lupe Fiasco was until I Googled a little more about it following Jack’s comment; Info Wars reported Rapper Has Set Cut Short At Inaugural Event Following Anti-Obama Rant

The following are a few additional articles that are worth looking at. The Lupe Fiasco fiasco at Slate

Lupe Fiasco Kicked Off Stage At Inaugural Event

Lupe Fiasco Kicked Off Stage At Obama Inauguration Event For Repeatedly Performing Anti-Obama Rap

Rapper Lupe Fiasco thrown off stage at inauguration concert for bashing Obama!

The last story on this listed had it’s video withdrawn for copyright reasons; save one of the other copys before the thought police come and shut them down for reasons that don’t officially ahve anything to do with politics or censorship. Unofficially, well you figure it out.

The media exercises discretion all the time in what they report, as there is a limit to what can be covered, which can of course be frustrating to all sorts of people.
To be fair, that is true everywhere, and for the some of the same reasons, if as you say, that can be dysfunctional, as to telling a narrative that is misleading feedback for the political class. And that is of course a big function of the media, to provide feedback from the people to those who in the nature of a complex society with an extensive division of labor have to rule in their name, to some extent at least. Of course too, how they exercise that discretionary power is important, and if they literally don't know what is going on too well... that can end badly. Of course too, realism as to what is possible is important for those who don't like the status quo so much, as to what a political scientist who's name escapes me, alas, age, called "ideal management," for an admittedly corrupt at times and imperfect world, some things on balance from most perspectives being better than others too.
informative post - and not too bad a rap either
[r] Zachd, thank you for this. when people risk arrest and lie down on cold cement and pavement they are damn serious and they deserve to be heralded as courageous. They are exercising the politics of courage, especially in an age when so few (but not as few as mainstream media wants us to believe) have their backs.

We have a corporate-captured government and and corrupt sociopathic corporate-owned media. Professional American journalists for the most part have sold out for access and compensation and glory and maybe basic survival to corrupt corporate and political cronies. Otherwise they are kicked to the curb by their society of corrupt cronies. The corruption is not limited to the US but the extent the censorship exists in the US is incredible.

I understand there is some kind of "propaganda amendment" I need to look into that will protect government disinformation coming at us because of the ever extenuating "War on Terror". That is how ballsy the liars -- people of the lie Scott Peck would call them -- have become. Orwellian. Alice in Wonderland world of law that is twisted or simply flipped so that those with conscience end up threatened, jailed, even tortured and the thieves and killers, the bigger their crimes, the more impunity they are granted. And Obama postures as if he is the new MLK. He is the anti-MLK. MLK would have been leading the die-in.

I watched the NewsHour Inauguration Day and it wasn't a news program, it was non-stop propagandized jingoism. It was chilling. Most importantly, what I noticed and continue to notice is that they and others eclipse the reality that there is ANYONE in America to the left of Obama. That his only challenge are those extremist tea partiers on the right. That is what they address and speculate about.

NewsHour serviced the personality cult. The NewsHour I have lost so much respect for. I watched Mark Shields and I was so disgusted. I used to actually seek him out. I still watch the NewsHour because of the news they manage to address but I don't know if it is healthy for me or not. I have to be extra vigilant about the disinformation and the propaganda and especially the sense of disenfranchisement and marginalization that it does to me as a human being trying to keep my conscience alive in this society in this spiritual dark age. MSNBC is also its own special nightmare. I remember listening to Air America on the radio which brought me so much hope at the end of the Bush years, and then during the election in 2008 I realized that there were liberals and then there were Team-Dem faux-progressives who called themselves "pragmatists" and were too cool for school and so "ends justifies the means" without moral vision, only political hunger and major trouble was ahead. I didn't begin to see the true future coming with Obama then. It is even much worse than I dreaded.

best, libby
Being a powerful nation has never been a pretty thing, Zachery. EVERY powerful nation has flexed its muscles in what less powerful nations deem to be inappropriate ways. Americans have more freedom to express themselves disapprovingly of their government than any people who have ever lived before or elsewhere on this planet…so some of our people delight in joining in the chorus of those who condemning us.

You, and the rest of the choir of malcontents who relentlessly pursue this “America and Obama suck” dissonance, should run for office and set all things right. You seem to know all the answers—so why not put your vast wisdom to good use.

I suspect the reason you don’t is because you could not even come close to getting elected…witness the miserable showing Jill Stein and the Greens did.

Yes, Zachery, there are plenty of things wrong with America—things we would do well to improve. But the nonsense being spewed by the people who can only see the glass as mostly empty rather than half full are doing nothing to improve it—and may well be doing more to make it worse than the people who are willing to work within the system for real improvement. You know whom I mean by that—the ones you think are “stupid enough to fall for it.”
I suppose Fiasco is lucky Obama didn't send a drone after him. I assume that comes next. In the limited inaugural coverage I saw here in New Zealand, I was constantly reminded of the cheering and adulation Hitler received when he made public addresses. I don't think there were any protesters at his speeches. They knew the SS would shoot them.
It's mind boggling that someone who virtually suspends the Bill of Rights could receive this kind of support. Unless the majority of the people in the crowd never heard of the Bill of the Rights. Which I suspect is the sad truth. I know a few people here at OS who never heard of it.
What is this Bill of Rights of which you speak?
I just read Lupe Fiasco’s rap. I may have to reconsider my opinion of the entire genre. My hat comes off to Lupe Fiasco and he sung this at Obama’s inauguration party too. Sorry. I pasted the whole thing up Zachery in order to counteract the comment of Open Salon’s resident shriveled shill.

I really think the war on terror is a bunch of bullshit
Just a poor excuse for you to use up all your bullets

The school was garbage in the first place, that's on the up and up
Keep you at the bottom but tease you with the uppercrust
You get it then they move it so you never keeping up enough
If you turn on TV all you see’s a bunch of “what the fucks”
Dude is dating so and so blabbering bout such and such
And that ain't Jersey Shore, homie that's the news
And these the same people that supposed to be telling us the truth
Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist
Gaza strip was getting bombed, Obama didn’t say shit
That's why I ain't vote for him, next one either
I’m a part of the problem, my problem is I’m peaceful
And I believe in the people.

~Lupe Fiasco~
Some folks over in Yemen, I believe it was, staged an "authentic" die-in at about the same time the prince of O was making his "I have a drone" speech.

Go figure.

Go Lupe Fiasco!
Don, the media uses it’s discretion to support the ideology of a relatively small percentage of the public that have influence over the six conglomerates that control the vast majority of the news we receive. They don’t even try to present a diverse point of view and those that don’t support the authorized ideology are banned from the corporate press.

Libby, the "propaganda amendment" as you call it has actually already been passed, sort of, but the Supremely Corrupted Court has decided to interpret the first amendment in a manner that does the opposite of what it was intended to do. Instead of protecting free speech for all it has been used to protect the speech that is bought and paid for and to limit the vast majority of speech to “free speech zones” where no one is listening. The effective result is that instead of preventing propaganda the first amendment does more to protect bribery than it does to protect speech.

The News Hour with Jim Lehrer used to seem comparatively good in relation to the rest of the press but since then it has become obvious that is isn’t much if any better and it just repeats the authorized propaganda. A review of the past may indicate it was always that way many of us just didn’t always recognize it.

Frank, “why not put your vast wisdom to good use.” Thanks for the kind suggestion; I’ll do my best to take you up on it. If I, and others, do this well then you’ll be happy to know that the past trends of the corporate press succeeding in convincing the public they have to choose between candidates that have been pre-selected by the corporations will no longer work any more.

Dandy Lion, “What is this Bill of Rights of which you speak?” Ask Frank

Jack, no apology necessary; shriveled shills are amusing. Your comments gave me the idea of using Google and looky what I found; I’ll have to edit this post and add this link to it.

Snowden, Inverted Interrobang, the rap wasn’t my idea and the larger story as reported by info wars is even greater. The folks in Yemen have done their share of di-ins its time for them to stop doing so; lets give them the choice.

Thanks all
Jack, no apology necessary; shriveled shills are amusing.

Perhaps they are, but if you really want to be amused, Zachery, you ought to spend more time listening to people who have to stoop to name-calling. They are the truly amusing posters.

And the ones who offer actual belly laughs are the ones who claim to be castigating Barack Obama because he is leading us into a fascist state and abridging our rights of free speech...

...while deleting posts that disagree with them! That is something to make the deadest of pans burst into laughter.

Makes ya wonder what they would be doing to freedom of speech if they were in positions of power!
