10 out of 100 Photos of Fall Leaves

Rate: 14 Flag

spiral

The first fifty to go were easy to eliminate.  The best one was obvious and can be seen above.  It has a spiral quality and the red color with the swirling blue sky is a great blend.  However then the editing became difficult.  Who gets to be in the top ten and why?  I actually enjoy the editing process when there is no pressure but my own sensibilities.  I learn so much about what makes a good composition. There is a reason I take a hundred photos.  I love them all.  But when I get them back home I can't imagine why I took some of them.  Boring.

   leaves

So many leaves and they all call to me.  Pick me.  Pick me.  I am the most beautiful.  Look at me.  What makes me love this picture?  It is the dark branches in the background like fine lines behind the red.  A winner.

blue sky

I stopped at three different locations to gather my leaf photos.  A park, a school yard and an apartment complex.  I'm sure people wondered what I was doing gazing up into the windows but I was looking at the sky and rejoicing in the colors.  Once a lady got out of her car and asked me why I was taking photos of her.  I had to explain that I was taking pictures of the trees.  She seemed oddly put out by that answer.

   brown

Oh I like this brown one.  It glows with the late afternoon light on the rough wooden planks.  Something different that wasn't flaming but still very fall and very leafy.

flame  Speaking of flaming.  This one looked like it was going to burn.

107

One red leaf among the brown and dying.  A fresh corpse against the grey cold concrete.  A quick snap at the time of something just hanging there on the ground and it made the top ten.

green leaves  Cropped and enhanced.  I had so many of these "light filtering thru the leaves" photos.  I liked the stems in this one and when it was finally cropped it seemed just right.  I don't have a great camera but when I put the photos thru my Picnik site all kinds of help is available.

Okay, okay, I know there are eleven photos here.  I am not publishing a magazine and I only have to please myself.  Editing is a very personal process.  Some of the best photos are on the cutting room floor and there are about thirty photos that I will keep in my library just because.

These picture are gorgeous! I am viewing on I phone they look almost too real. I will have to check out picknic
My fave is the wooden board one, I thought I was seeing the sky, then realized ... those are BLUE LEAVES!
Where do you find these trees? Ours just turn brown and fall off the tree...:)
Beautiful.. HUGGGGGGGGG
ah fall! with the rain here last week we are having a little spring!
These are gorgeous. I just wish they didn't have to fall. -R-
California fall is different. There are only a few colored trees. But to catch them blazing against this fiercely blue sky was electric yesterday. Pure pleasure and a labor of love to edit them down to eleven and share them with my OS friends.
Very nice. Check out my blog banner. The pic was taken in my back yard.
Yummy. I love the brown one too, very soft and soothing. Dianaani is right about the blue leaves, they look almost like metal sculpture. Thanks for doing the work and sharing the beauty!
Good work, Zanelle. I like the pastel leaves against the wooden planks too. And I'm sure Scarlett Sumac will appreciate seeing her 'nom de plume' sake in its scarlet glory. Congratulations on the EP.

The first one is my favorite too. Congratulations on the EP and all the photos are gorgeous.
Very nice. Thank you for this.
Zanelle, Fusun is right. I especially love the fourth from the bottom. :)
Isn't it lovely right now? This looks like my neighborhood. What a pleasure to enjoy before the winter rains come. We have to enjoy it here while it lasts. Great pics.
Really lovely. Thanks.
Oh, a thousand thank yous, these are absolutely scrumptious! I would blow up each one to poster size to hang up in my living room. I missed most of the fall, being stuck in the house, sick. These pictures show what I missed. Just beautiful.
My favorite is of the leaves (some look purple!) against the wooden planks. Thanks for the gift of nature to brighten my day!
Inspiring reds thank you :)
Congratulations on the EP!

Beautiful photographs. I very much like the one with the blue-purple leaves and the wooden planks, but I think that the streaming light through the leaves is my favorite. I find it so hard to edit photos too, when there are so many to choose from. Most of the leaves have now fallen where I live (in the Midwest), but it has been a glorious and colorful fall. Have lost count of how many shots -- probably in the two - three thousand range -- I have taken this season.
