She looked out the window intently for the first sight of her sister coming home from school. Oh, how she wished she could go too. As soon as sis came in the door there were a million questions for her.
"What'd you do today?"
"Was that boy there?"
"What did you bring me?"
Her sister always tried to bring her a little worksheet or sticker from her desk at school. They played school together in the hallway with the big sister bossing the little one as she pretended to be sitting at a desk doing something but she wasn't quite sure what. School was the big mystery.
The anticipation was high when little sis went to school for the first time. Kindergarten was the promised land. She knew it was going to be golden. Her first day was wonderful and she was hooked. The bookbag full of pencils and bright paper was heavy and she hurried to catch up to her big sister.
Both girls never lost that glow. They went to high school together and then college and each became adept at helping others learn. They did not think of school as a means to an end. In their minds it was just an atmosphere of social and mental challenges. They wanted to go everyday and they spent their lives in Education.
They developed a school of their own when they were in their forties. They wanted kids to love school like they had. In a small town up in the mountains they formed a school that was small enough for individual attention and they added on to the attendance with online students from all over the world. The way they made each student feel a part of their school was revolutionary. They used stickers.
They developed a line of stickers that were irridescent and extremely intricate. Grade school students were drawn into the game of collecting these stickers and the school work richly rewarded them with these unique works of art. Each sticker was for a specific area much like the badges of the Scouts. However the stickers were holographs.
When the students received a sticker for work well done they could put the sticker on a table and a special light revealed a figure that appeared in three dimensions and talked to them. Sometimes the figure did a little dance, sometimes it was an animal to play with and other times it granted wishes.
A graduate of their school had a shelf full of these amazing holograms which they could use or sell as they wished. There was a big market for them and they were becoming more valuable with time. Many students did not want to part with them for sentimental reasons.
The two sisters had changed the world of Education and were given a special thank you by the President of the United States. They gave him an honorary sticker.
