It is difficult to believe Robin Williams is gone. Substance abuse takes a toll and depression is a real thing. At 63 with a successful life he was too young to go. It rocks the foundation of all I believe to contemplate his death. It just doesn't seem fair.
You would think I would have figured it out by now...but I am not sure of my label. I know what I am not...Conservative....and I used to proudly label myself Democrat. There is a difference between a political label, religious label and lifestyle label. Usua… Read full post »
I have been binge watching "Orange is the New Black" on Netflix and it is like reading a book. I haul my laptop out in the yard, to bed and at the table. Clicking on pause reminds me of folding the corner of a page down to mark my place… Read full post »

Well, there is a hurricane headed straight for the big island of Hawaii where my daughters are dealing with another life and death situation. I still have no doubt that they can deal with whatever comes. That is so important.
Finally able to cut and paste from OUR with lots of crashes on this old browser.
I wanted to have someplace to express the pain we are all feeling because my daughter's baby has brain damage

A day in the life of a trashcan on a city sidewalk was like any other day. This particular day was sultry with low clouds and high temperatures. People were sweating.
Some of the ladies glowed. They wore loose clothing and seemed to glide throug… Read full post »
There were fourteen kids in her family. She remembers the Saturday baths and the bowls of beans. Mostly she grew up outside and fortunately she was big and strong so she survived.

Alysa told me to write a story about cheese. She is all covered in mother's milk so that is probably why she thought of cheese. I can't imagine a story about cheese right now but I think one will come to me soon. It sounds like a kid's stor… Read full post »
I thought for years that this was a fancy yuppie market and I stayed away. Then I walked thru the doors and realized it was like a trip around the world It is my vacation spot in this Southern California hell of Costco, Walmart and SuperM… Read full post »
Pulling up next to this dented, dirty trailer and pick up truck I imagined who was sleeping inside. There was no one in sight and it was a hot afternoon. Naptime on the road from hell in the desert heat. I bet it was hot in that tin can.… Read full post »
Do you power through pain or do you surrender to it? I do the latter and have kept it at bay for a long time. A friend was telling us of all her procedures and my mom listened intently. Later she was lamenting how terrible health problems are.

A new book has captured me called "The Goddess Within" by Jennifer and Roger Woolger. I have always had an issue with Christianity and its reliance on a male God. That is only half the story and the Goddesses who have been pushed to the background all these years are… Read full post »
I love a movie that makes me think and empowers me as I walk out of the theater into the mall. I really could feel what she felt as the bizarre drug made her super aware and able to access 100 percent of her brain. She was powerful.

I passed around pipe cleaners at the picnic table on the patio and it was interesting to see all the ways people responded to them. Some would only take one reluctantly saying they had no imagination. Others created magical shapes and illusions that boggled the mind.&nbs… Read full post »
There are too many airplane crashes to keep up with in the news. I just put my kids on the plane to Hawaii. We know we are very lucky to have the ability to fly anywhere in the world and not have to depend on a covered wagon ride. Travel has… Read full post »
It was so fun to light the candles over and over again on the cement birthday cake. "Again!" "Again" and there was lots of talk about not spitting on the cake although really it is cement so who cares but it is practice for the real thing. We all need… Read full post »
Dealing with mental illness is exhausting. Does everyone have something? Oh, my, it is a parade of maladies that go by me everyday and I always wonder what my particular insanity is?

"Do you want me to make you something with Play Dough?"
"Make me some medicine."
"How about some food medicine."

"Now I'll make you some French fries."
I did a post on what it was like in the University of Washington Art Department in the sixties.

I spent the afternoon with my three year old granddaughter. I found myself telling her all the things that I have been thinking about deep down inside myself and hoping that she just takes it all with a grain of salt. Having a grandma like me… Read full post »
When I walked up to get my parked car you were standing there in your security guard uniform staring out at the view. Dreamy. I said “Nice view.”
You turned around and said, “It is now.”
