Let Freedom Ring........

Rate: 3 Flag
Got the following message from the Women for Freedom group today:

Dear friends
The whole world are following the situation in Iran holding our breaths. I personally hope that democracy will be forced upon the priests. A democracy which in particular will help and set free the millions of women in Iran hold in a iron-fist of the priests in command. A terrible and humiliating situation for the population but especially the women. Do whatever you can do to support the demonstrations for democracy in Iran and at their ambassades around the world. It law , democracy and the belief in equality which should rule in Iran - and not some old men taking an odd book - whatever the religion may be - as hostage for a dictatory. Let the people of Iran set free - and let the women set free.
Best wishes

If anyone has really looked at how things are done in Iran and surrounding countries they then understand just how powerful these Priests are in each community.  A governing system that has been so for centuries.  It is blatantly obvious that change is needed but how is that accomplished?  I, for one, will be watching these demonstrations with much interest and hope for a step towards positive change, but change won't happen overnight.  You can't expect a policy that is and has been not just a policy but a way of life for these people to just fade into the darkness.  That said, still it is inspiring to see people standing up with their very lives on the line for themselves and for future generations to come.

I am inspired and encouraged by the protests in Iran. It is a positive step in the right direction but whatever change it brings will be a far cry short of changing thousands of years of a culture. It's a start though.
Where the Iranian protests lead to I hope is freedom... for all!
Very true Cap'n, and amen to that Mr. Mustard!
Great post! The video was had me laughing, because unfortunately that is the way some see women. I am with what Capn' said. Hopefully it does lead to freedom.
Thanks fireeyes! The really sad thing is that for many women in Iran et. al. is that treatment like that in the video would be a step up!
