@Darryl Ross....Interesting how certain folks can leap to conclusions about matters of which they apparently know absolutely nothing.....If you knew anything at all about professional tennis you would know that tennis players, especially the top ranked ones, are probably the most tested and screened athletes on the planet....The grand slam events and several lesser events require drug/hormone screening before during and after each event...sometimes random often as a precondition to entering and competing......All Americans should be proud of the accomplishments of these two young women. Who, as you have aptly pointed out, will not have their sex or sexuality questioned upon retirement from the sport they are currently dominating....
Where were you when Steffi, Martina, and Billie Jean were walking over and through the competition while the whispering re the advantages of not -so-lady-like "ladies were mopping up the courts with their opponents....Then there was the transexual woman who had to undergo chromosme testing before "she" was allowed to compete in the women's brackets...I won't give the name. Perhahpas wanting to know will provide the impetus and motivation necessary for further reading/research.....which is something that those who count themselves "good writers" often do before they write even a cursory or passing comment........

Don't call me down because professional tennis is unregulated. Everyone thought that the tour d fucken france was clean ten years ago but those in the know kept their yaps shut. It sure has helped their image.

As a huge tennis fan, but not necessarily a knee-jerk American fan, I am excited about this year's tournament - not just because it has propelled three Americans to the finals but because it has produced such great tennis. Andy vs. Andy was sensational and tennis stood to be the winner no matter which ended up going to the finals. Roddick has finally matured into the player we all knew he could be and will be a worthy opponent to deny Rolex Roger of his record... at least this time.

@Darryl, Professional tennis is as about as regulated as you can get in the world of proffessional sports...It wasn't that long ago that peopl of color were not permitted to compete at Wimbledon, or The US Open becasue of the "regulations". The Australian and French Open events were essentially regulated in the same manner, but had quirks that people of color could overcome if politically deft and athletically talented enough to do so....Tennis is a much higher profile sport than cycling.....The scrutiny much greater....I will not sit idly by while you blithely cast aspersions like bits of candy for the less informed to gobble up in some kind of racially reinforced fog of gullabilty....Do some homework first, then point your finger....If the facts are there to support the suspicion or allegation, I would be among the first to acknowledge the viabilty or even validity of your assertions until then........You didn't respond to my querry re Steffi, Martina, and Billie Jean....What no knee-jerk, reflexive suspicion of white "women" whose dominance of the sport still overshadows the impressive record of the Williams sisters....?
