Furiosity

Rate: 18 Flag

I was going to write about two American disgraces:

First, there is an appalling  number of returning vets who committed suicide after being turned away by the Veterans Administration medical care facilities. The head of VA psychiatry was once caught suborning false statements in order to get claims denied. This idiot sent out memos and that is how he was caught!

Second, there are any number of returning vets who have severe mental illness, brain damage, PtSD and PTSD. These vets have committed murder and other crimes. They are in prison.

No one knows, has bothered to find out, or has created any plans  for keeping track of returning Iraq and Afghanistan war vets who have ended up in prison.

I wanted to write about how I hate what this country has become. Worse, I hate what the American people have become.

But CNN, the most busted name in news, just put up one of the most disgusting news segments I have ever heard, so this is what I will write today:

I'm listening to CNN. A Brit and some token Guy are interviewing David Wood from Huffington Post as the expert on Americas returning vets.

David Wood has never served in the military! He's a Quaker, for God's sake.

All three are speaking with a fake sincerity that makes me want to vomit.

Wood talks with the intellect of a 12 year old as he blathers on about the veterans. He states the obvious as he blathers on about how they try to find jobs with horrible wounds yadda yadda.

Wood and the other two never talk about the VA. Never, not once, nunca, nein, does any one of them mention the VA.

The VA is a failed institution where nothing has been done to improve a hideous backlong in veterans  claims processing that has persisted for over 13 years.

Meanwhile, VA employees get enormous bonuses for showing up at the office.

This mess is continuing even after the VA was ordered by the 9th Circuit Court Of Appeals to clean it up earlier this year.

The VA has arrogantly ignored the 9th circuit order and has appealed it. The VA has considered itself to be above the law and above any court for far too long.

Shinsenki does not even have a "contact me" button on his web page. No matter, he won't even respond to the organizations. The Republicans want us all to forget paying the vets or processing their claims.

The DAV, VFW, AmVets, and more have built a self serving and corrupted relationship with the VA. Those organizations are not getting claims processed, nor are they lobbying successfully to get anything done about the issue. Yet they never stop hitting Americans up for donations.

More and more vets are flocking to the county Veterans Service Officers as they should, but the VSOs  are not funded to take care of them. The VSO's, hands down, have a far better success rate, too.

But the VSO's are in an official bind where vets are forced to sign on with the very same corrupted and useless service organizations that do nothing.  It sucks.

Wood babbles on about the "organizations" that help vets, but can't name more than a couple of the least important organizations in America. What a waste of air time.

Wood keeps blathering on and telling fake stories about vets, then blathering even more about how people need to help.

Then he hesitates and says "...the government", which indicates that he is deliberately dodging even mentioning  the Veterans Administration.

Does this idiot realize that it is not the local volunteer group, or some national upstart organization, but the VA that should be taking care of the vets that he mentions in his silly stories about missing legs and arms?

CNN and Wood boldly and deliberately colluded to black out any mention of the VA's responsibility for taking care of wounded warriors.

So I'm listening to a woman Brit, a Black guy and a know nothing writer lecture and talk in circles in the most rambling and ignorant way that I have ever witnessed.

After this, I pledge to stop accepting any more thanks for my service.

Those thanks will  not be genuine and they will not be true until Americans make sure that every last veterans claim is processed, and by "processed" I do not mean by delaying them forever or by automatically denying them all.

We got rid of cable - it's amazing how I do not miss CNN as much as I thought I would - all those so called panels talking over themselves....

Excellent post!
Thanks, Kitd. I only keep it on in case there is breaking news. But once in a while, they go too far!

If anyone has a kid in the war or is in the war: Go to your county VSO if you have a claim!
Time to start your own talking and make yourself heard, as a veteran. Hit up your congress people and write about what they say, go for the throat, you got the experience to back up what you are saying.
You are a powerful voice - roar, sister, roar! And you are right.
If the VA isn't going to take care of returning vets, it should not exist. Their failure to adequately help vets is criminal. Right now a nephew and a friend's son are at war. One is on a carrier. The other is on a sub. I hope that they both come back healthy and able to return to normal life, but there are no guarantees.
The problem with the VA is in some areas, they rock hard, do what they're suppose to do, HELP THE VETS, but in other areas, they suck ass, as you said, "Where's my bonus for showing up?" is the war cry heard there and the vets are dying.

They need to standardize to the better side or shoot the sons of a bitches on the bad side, to even out the equation!!!

RATED!!!
The Roman Empire fell, when it stopped supporting it's soldiers. They had been promised land and food, they instead got more battles to fight. They finally upped and walked away. Just food for thought.
Zuma--you are SO right. Go get 'em.
Zuma~ I am angry and ashamed too. Have been since the Vietnam War.
My Dad received terrific and compassionate care from the VA for years. This was many years ago. They were underfunded then, and it was prior to Iraq and Afghanistan.
I have done some projects affiliated with the Wounded Warriors Project, and have had frank discussions with the vets and their spouses about what they have to deal with. The VA needs huge amounts of money and they need it immediately. They are seriously and shamefully underfunded. There is no excuse.
I turn off the 24 hours news now - nothing on but talking heads, their "experts" and bimbos with high cheek bones.

Thank god I have never needed the VA. You have my sympathies if you do. The government don't give a rat's ass about disabled vets.

We all "support our troops" with bumper stickers and go to the mall on Veterans Day.

You know, Tink is right. the VA has a split personality should be split into two or maybe three organizations. The medical care and the pay section are not bad at all. It is just the claims processing that is in such a mess and has always been.

Sheila: I have been talking and so have tens of thousands of others. We need to occupy the VA.

Owl...grrrrrr-cough-rrrr!

bike: that was the only plan: for everyone to come home and be hunky dory. There was no other plan. Prayers for those two!

Kenny: In our case, so many are desperate and are glad to go into the service. But the military is going to draw down and start throwing people out...into unemployment and no benefits! Talk about brutal.

Fingerlakes: thanks. It just ticks me off that they can't find a person who works with vets and who knows what they are talking about. It's like hiring me to talk about billionaires!

onislandtime: wounded warriors is a good org. Those kids need to know what's going on before they get out.

dirndl: Vietnam was ugly. There are vietnam vets who are still trying to get their claims done.

Hy: Thanks! You are such a dear!

Sarge Toritto: The vast majority of past vets came back into society and used their GI bill or the home loans and that's it. But these wars are bad, just bad. There was so much done wrong that these kids are damaged for life, if not from the new explosives, then from being forced to do combat for far too long.
You write real fierce when you get mad. I have had my own dealings with the VA, and it could have been so much clearer and easier...
I'm only slightly up to speed on the issue zuma but yours sounds like a well-aimed critique. It also sounds like the VA is an organization that's lost its way and either it needs a major house-cleaning or it needs to be scrapped and rebuilt. Great post.
It's all talk, talk, talk. No action. Like Torritto says :
We all "support our troops" with bumper stickers and go to the mall on Veterans Day. Our country's so screwed up from the core...
dianaani: It's ridiculous. I did very well, but I had VSO's on the case. But so many are just lost. Not only do you have to know the twisted system, you have to know somebody who knows somebody.

Abrawang: I hope that the VA does break up. It is too big to fail!

imore: that has been infuriating and the left has been as bad as the right.
I have read that due to roadside explosions, etc., there are now a lot more head trauma cases, from mild to severe, than in previous wars. Also a lot worse wounds that these days can be saved...and then what. The whole scene of the world today is totally insane.
I appreciate your anger. It's a horrible thing, to cast off our "dead wood" soldiers like used beer cans after they are no longer useful as a weapons platform. It's a formal disgrace, more so since these young men and women have been placed in harm's way for a few very rich people to get even richer. I support our troops, and in that support, I have been an outspoken opponent of both the war in Afghanistan and the totally fabricated War for Oil in Iraq.

Our soldiers are supposed to be defending our country, our way of life and defending us from threats, foreign and domestic. Sadly, their greatest enemy is the government they "serve" which so callously uses them for making others richer than they already are.

I hate what's happening here. I hate the way our government has been co-opted by rich interests and I hate that there is so much apathy, misunderstanding and outright ignorance of the facts that are so easy to see right in front of anyone if they simply care to look.

It's only one more aspect of why the #OWS movement is so important right now. We need to make our government understand they are beholden to US, not the other way around. That includes doing their level best to take care of the damaged and wounded soldiers they put in harm's way -- and then carelessly left in the garbage bins called the VA.

Grrr! says this one time Air Force service member.

--r--
Myriad: I have been slogging through this since I had orders to report for King Bush's nightmare. I was 14 hours from getting on a plane at Travis AFB.

There is a new explosive that puts a wave through the brain matter. The old bombs simply knocked the entire brain around, causing concussion and bruising.

There is no known treatment, let alone a plan for treatment.

But it only takes the word of a superior medical official to get a soldier thrown out with a dishon and a hard road ahead.

Dunniteowl: Then let's kick ass! Please write your own article! Let the world know from the perspective of one who has been there, whether you are service connected or not!
