Teaching Our Daughters

As a father of two sons who were once prepubescent children, there is just so much I can warn them about. Should they wear protective athletic supporters and avoid female adults?

What should they be doing to avoid getting molested?

The answer is clear. We need to teach our daughters not to molest boys.

Seriously? The whole reason I shopped online was to avoid going into one of those seedy adult book stores.

And my Amazon account gets forwarded to my business email, where my administrative assistant screens messages. I guess there was a lively discussion at her dinner table that night.

Step #2) PM the newbie. Tell her that she’s good writer but she must know how OS-world works; specifically, how to play-the-system when it comes to ratings to keep a post in the current feed and build an audience.

Step #3) Offer to send lots of friends over to rate her blog.

Step #4) Sign-in multiple times, under multiple OS identities, go to the newbie’s blog and rate (and comment).

Step #5) PM the newbie to say “See, I told you I have many friends on OS” and welcome her into his inner circle

Step #6) Repeat Step #s 1-5 for the next victim

Let's Modify Bill Beck's Shell Game, Shall We?

Let's play a choose-the-travel-mode game for your life. This game, however, is a bit more difficult than simply picking your travel option; you must avoid the vehicles where disaster lurks. If you pick the correct transportation mode, you win. You survive. If you pick one of the wrong vehicle types, you die. Choose carefully.

Let’s start the game!

Ooo, this next one looks dangerous with that vulnerable gas tank at the rear. Scared aren't ya?

Care to share which vehicle you believe is the most dangerous? If you got into one of these vehicles in the past year, you stand to lose your life in three of them. Choose carefully. Your life may depend on it.

(Vehicle #1 is the cruise ship Costa Concordia. 32 people died when the ship hit a reef off the Italian coast.)

(Vehicle #2 is a passenger train -- the Tamil Nadu Express in India. In July 2012, this train caught fire at 4:22 am and at least 32 passengers died.)

(Vehicle #3 is an airplane. In April 2012, this ATR 72-201 crashed shortly after take-off in Russia, killing 31 of the 43 people on board.)

The Pinto's legacy was affected by media controversy and legal cases surrounding the safety of its gas tank design; a recall of the car in 1978; and a later study examining actual incident data that concluded the Pinto was as safe as, or safer than, other cars in its class.

You see, readers, this is a persuasive essay in the form of a rebuttal which states that some impressions are flawed due to bias in the media or inaccurate/selective reporting. That bias leads to travesties of justice like accusing a person that he is slam-dunk guilty of a crime, without allowing an investigation to proceed through its natural course.

Apparently, admitting that one doesn’t know ALL of the circumstances surrounding a death and crime scene is an unforgiveable offense to many OSers. I have not publicly-condemned George Zimmerman along with the bandwagoneers who jump-on the flavor-of-the-month media story because I don’t know what happened and in what sequence. And I am willing to see how it plays out in a court of law.

Bill Beck has agreed that an unarmed person engaged in a fight with a police officer who reaches for the cop’s gun during a struggle can be legitimately shot. However, if a legally-armed private citizen is in a similar-type struggle with an unarmed person who reached for a gun, Bill Beck refuses to accept that there could be a set of circumstances where the shooting is warranted.

Again, I don’t know what happened, but apparently Bill Beck and many other sheeple in OS do.
