With the onset of a particular panic attack it may appear as if the body is failing, but in reality it is a self protective mechanism. The chain of physiological reactions that occur in acute attack are as follows:

Most often the triggering stimulus is fear of something. This starts some rections within the body. The adrenaline level increases and causes the person to panic(a strong feeling to fight with the situation of run away from the situation)It also leads to an increased heart rate and shortness of breath.Sweating increases and these constellation of symptoms almost mimic aheart attack.

There is increase in the rate of breathing which flushes out carbondioxide gas from the body which in turn results in sensations such as tingling, numbness, lightheadedness, etc.

Now you cannot actually control the physiological reactions occuring in your body, but definitely you may avoid them by preventing yourself from getting an attack.Sounds pretty easy! But actually to control panic attacks you need to have full self confidence in yourself that you will be able to withstand any such future attacks.you need to throw away the fear of any further panic attacks in the future so that apprehension level is lowered. You may learn such methods from various books being available in the market.I would suggest you to read Joe Barry Panic Away book which has some trademarked anti panic methods. Also you will need to practice some relaxation techniques which will ease out the tension.so happy panic-free life!
