After reading Padraig Colman's recent post on the quality ofOS and leaving a long comment there despite promises of brevity I decided to ask OS a question. Who is Tijo? In my comments at PC's post I told him that I found it ironic that his quote of my comments from elsewhere would inevitably get more reads than anything I have posted here in my own little slice of OS and yet I seem to be reasonably well known here. Also during the recent fistacuffs over mental health someone said that they refused to be lectured by anyone even if it was Tijo. (Implying that there is a Tijo that you all know and know what she, the commenter, is talking about). There have been several instances such as this that have made me wonder lately who I am in regards to OS (how you all see me) what good I am serving by being here and whether there is reason for me to continue along in the same manner that I have thus far.

The Salon part of open salon appeals to me, (the open isn't bad either). I think that level of discussion and discourse that I was looking for here is for one less frequent than I had hoped and for two never invoked/provoked or in any other way been voked by my posts. This is not to devalue those who have stopped by here regularly and developed a relationship but to describe something of an identitiy crisis and possibly a crisis of confidence that there is any reason to continue that identity. This is not a flounce, a request for advice on how to build readership, or improve my writing skills, nor a search for platitudes but a real question about what purpose I serve here and I hope that those of you who read this will give me some real answers.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."

Many thought he was outshone by his brothers, that their light shined brighter. But his shone longer, became a beacon and a guide, a light to work by late into the night. His was a liberal light, generous and kind, lighting the way for rich and poor alike shining where others did not deign theirs to be worthy. It will require many of us to take up our own lights to brighten the darkness you have left behind.

Thank you Senator.

Family Statement: “Edward M. Kennedy—the husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle we loved so deeply—died late Tuesday night at home in Hyannis Port. We’ve lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever. We thank everyone who gave him care and support over this last year, and everyone who stood with him for so many years in his tireless march for progress toward justice, fairness and opportunity for all. He loved this country and devoted his life to serving it. He always believed that our best days were still ahead, but it’s hard to imagine any of them without him.”

Cynisism and mold both appear to be ornate and complex but actually thrive because their simple structure requires so little support.

I was going through some papers and found this note that I had written to myself at work. I didn't know what else to do with it so I'm sharing it with you. I think it is from around the time when the republicans were talking about how worthless hope was during the Obama campaign.
