About You Don't Jack
You Don’t Know Jack is a powerful HBO film about the trials in and out of the courtroom of Dr. Jack Kevorkian. Angel of Mercy or “Doctor Death”? This film lets the audience decide. A gray-haired eccentric figure, Jack (Al Pacino) is championed in some circles and loathed in others. His team includes his loving sister Margo (Brenda Vaccaro), his bear-like friend Neal Nicol (John Goodman), and straight-talking activist Janet Good (Susan Sarandon). With flamboyant attorney Geoffrey Fieger (Danny Huston) representing him, Jack scores many legal victories while helping terminally afflicted patients end their suffering. However, as the stakes escalate, Margo passes away and Janet succumbs to pancreatic cancer. Kevorkian’s emotional isolation has tragic consequences as he is charged with murder and represents himself in the Thomas Youk case, in a final push to legalize assisted suicide. While this is a controversial and serious manner, there is a slight comedic angle via Jack’s eccentricities.
